Mississippi 2019

MS 72, Scenic MS 5, Snow Lake Shores, Hickory Flat, MS 178, New Albany, Tanglefoot Trailhead, MS 15, Pontotoc, New Houlka, MS 8, Morgan’s Landing Campground, Aberdeen, Juniper, Hercules Club Trees,

New Albany and the start of the Tangle Foot Trail. New Albany is all about the trail head and down town. Interesting Court House and lots of classic old buildings down town. We did the first twenty miles of the trail to find it very well maintained and lots of friendly folks along the way. The trail head is big enough to pull several rigs into.

Pontotoc MS is about half way down the Tangle Foot Trail. There is a trail head near down town but we opted for a park south of town with ball fields. Had the whole place to ourselves on a Sunday afternoon. If empty the lot is asphalt and can accommodate several rigs. Here we road the center section of the trail.

New Houlka, MS has a “Whistle Stop” with a town square where several rigs could park to take in the southern leg of the Tangle Foot Trail. To recap the trail is maintained so well by the community, they go above and beyond. One of the rest stops even had a cooler of water bottles and salt tablets provided by the church!! And there’s a security attendant that drives on the trail in a golf cart. If you can only do part of the trail, be sure to take in the North end. The town of New Albany has a really nice down town area all about the trail.

On to Aberdeen, MS. and the Morgan’s Landing Campground. Nice lay out along the Tombigbee River. Patches of Juniper around the campground and we discovered Hercules Club Trees! First day here was a rainy one.
